Sky Series work

Sky Series work

Since I launched Laura Kedzlie Art I've created several series of works. This blog is about the 'Sky Series' and the inspiration behind some of the paintings.

Working mainly with oil paints on larger sized canvas frames many of these paintings have been inspired by the beautiful sunset skies you see in the UK.

'Tempest'  - this painting took over three weeks of continuous work in oils and has been one of my favourite pieces to paint.

I had no specific concept of what the finished piece would look like, but wanted to incorporae some dramatic purple tones to create a thunderstorm style artwork, with a sense of movement.

I used hog bristle brushes on the canvas for the clouds, which give the painting an ethereal, mystical feel.

'Burnt Orange Sky'. This oil painting was based on sunset skies that I witnessed over a two week period whilst staying in Bridport, Dorset.

The night skies are amazing down there

The sunsets in Dorset, specifically Bridport are some of the most incredible ones I have witnessed and so photos like this have been instrumental in shaping paintings from the 'Sky' series.

I paint from memory generally, but used the photo to steer the direction of several sky paintings, which have incorporated neon orange and yellow into the colour scheme.
